There is a statement I often hear in sessions: "I’m too old to keep blaming my parents or others for my pain." Here is what I say to that. You must first acknowledge who contributed. Meaning where the trauma is rooted. That allows you to recognize, for example, that you may need to come to therapy to address your anger problems. Yes, you are an adult, but your anger came from watching your parents argue, your brother having an outburst, and your family always fighting. It’s important to acknowledge who contributed, the length of time and develop a plan with your therapist to address your concerns.
